As someone who has always enjoyed seafood—particularly clams and oysters—I was drawn to the character and simplicity of this subject. There is an appealing rhythm to working with the tides: knowing the water, understanding the shoreline, and being willing to get your hands dirty in pursuit of the day's harvest.
The expansive tidal landscape provides a quiet backdrop for the figure, while the basket and tools tell the rest of the story. I wanted the watercolor to feel loose and spontaneous, allowing the washes, textures, and splashes of color to capture the atmosphere of a day spent along the coast.
For me, Low Tide Harvest is a celebration of the people who have a genuine connection to the water—and the simple pleasures that can come from following a passion.
